Baxter's Second Innings

Baxter's Second Innings

Henry Drummond (1851–1897) was a Scottish evangelist and scientist. A lecturer in natural science at the Free Church College in Glasgow, he travelled with D. L. Moody's campaigns in Britain and America and spoke to students across the English-speaking world. His address The Greatest Thing in the World — a meditation on 1 Corinthians 13 — became a devotional classic; our library also holds The Ideal Life and other collections of his addresses.

About this book

A small collection of Henry Drummond's shorter pieces, published after his death in 1902. The title nods to Richard Baxter, the Puritan pastor Drummond admired, and the pieces carry Drummond's characteristic warmth, holding together nature, experience, and Christian faith in an easy, conversational style. A gentle introduction to the mind of the Scottish evangelist and author.
