Expositions of Holy Scripture: Second Kings (VIII–) to Ecclesiastes

Alexander MacLaren (1826–1910) was a Scottish Baptist minister famed for expository preaching. After early pastorates he settled at Union Chapel, Manchester, for forty-five years, and twice served as president of the Baptist Union. MacLaren prepared his sermons with a scholar's care and delivered them with a poet's touch; the many volumes of his Expositions of Holy Scripture — whole-Bible preaching in print — form his monument in our library.

About this book

One volume of Alexander MacLaren's Expositions of Holy Scripture, gathering his expository sermons on the later chapters of Second Kings through Ecclesiastes. MacLaren, the Manchester preacher famed for the clarity and freshness of his pulpit work, takes passage after passage and opens its meaning with careful structure and vivid application. These sermons reward slow reading, whether for study, preaching preparation, or private devotion.
